Milky Way Over Spain's Bardenas Reales

Explanation :

What's that below the Milky Way? First, across the top of the above image, lies the faint band that is our planet's sideways view of the central disk of our home Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way band can be seen most clear nights from just about anywhere on Earth with a dark sky. What lies beneath is, by comparison, is a much less common sight. It is the striking peak of Castildetierra, a rock formation located in Bardenas Reales, a natural badlands in northeast Spain. Standing 50 meters tall, the rock spire includes clay and sandstone left over from thousands of years of erosion by wind and water. The astrophotographer waited months for the sky to appear just right -- and then took the 14 exposures that compose the above image in a single night.

은하수 아래에 보이는 건 무엇일까요? 먼저, 위 사진의 상단을 가로지르는 희미한 띠가 펼쳐져 있는데, 이것은 우리 행성에서 우리 고향 은하계의 중심 원반을 옆에서 본 모습입니다. 은하수 띠는 광해가 없는 어두운 하늘만 있다면 지구 어디에서든지 선명하게 밤마다 볼 수 있습니다. 반면 그 아래에 펼쳐져 있는 것은 흔한 광경이 아닙니다. 사진속 장소는 스페인 북동부에 있는 천연 황무지인 바르데나스 레알레스인데, 우뚝 서 있는 저 카스틸데띠레아의 뾰족한 봉우리는 누구에게나 감동을 줄 것입니다. 50미터 높이의 점토와 사암 성분의 바위 탑은 수천 년에 걸쳐 바람과 물에 의한 침식의 결과로 주위가 씻겨나가고 남은 것입니다. 이 사진을 촬영한 천체촬영전문가는 적당한 하늘이 나타나기만을 수개월 동안 기다렸고, 위 사진을 하룻밤의 광경으로 합성할 14장의 노출사진을 촬영했습니다(또는 어느 날 하룻밤에 14번의 노출 사진을 얻어내 그것들을 합성해 위 사진을 만들었습니다).
